It's snowing like crazy here (I'm in West Michigan right now for the rest of the month). Saw Chicago on the news because of the plane at Midway... it's definitely coming down quickly on that side of the lake! I am jealous of my Montreal friends... who say there is just a gentle, pretty snowfall over there. In MI, it always seems like it's either all or nothing!

Update-because of the snow, an airplane at Midway airport couldn't stop and skidded on a runway and plowed through a fence and into a busy intersection of cars! It's all over the local news here. Oh my god, thats awful Katie! I hope everyone is alright.
They have actually issued a snow emergency for my county Normally where I live we get a bit of tempering effect from Lake Erie. We get snow throughout the whole winter, just not as bad as the rest of the state. And we usually dont get the full force of big storms like this. My cousin is spending the night because there was no way she was going to take the 20min drive back to her house once we got to my place to get her car. She had already spent the night on Wed because we carpool during the week.
This is crazy. I hope everyone caught up in the storm stays safe and warm.

It hit here at about 3 this afternoon and I had to be at work at 4.My work is directly across the street from my apartment and it took me half an hour to get across the street It stopped for a few hours and now we have icy roads(in the places the plow trucks haven't hit)flurries and 6 inches of snow.

Ladies, Just the mention of snow here in North carolina sends everyone in a frenzy. Several years ago we got 8 inches and school was closed for a WEEK. One problem is that we are not equipped to deal with the snow. MY BIL in upstate Ny gets a big laugh at us Southerners They NEVER close school (he saids).
We were suppose to get ice last night 1/4 inch maybe. Walmart was packed and all the milk and bread were gone. YES my husbnad stopped there too.LOL. But it did not happen. My kids were VERY sad to be out the door this morning going to school.

At last count, downtown Chicago got 11" on the NBC office building rooftop, and OHare got about 6". We've shoveled 3 times here, and you can hardly tell anybody did anything, but at least it may have stopped by now.
I doubt that our schools will close--they're notorious for not closing for anything short of a nuclear blast. The high school is the worst--from the students' points of view--they have their own power plant and sidewalk snow plows, so they almost never close. I don't know if they ever closed once in the 8 years that my sons went there.

We hardly ever close school here. Yesterday a foot of snow was expected, and it we still had school. It snowed all day though, so the kids got out at 12:30 (which they were very excited about). If they get out after 11, it counts as a whole school day and they don't have to make it up.
